Voepass 2283 ATR72 accident – Your zero speculation update

VoePass Flight 2283 crashed outside São Paulo, Brazil. No one on board survived. The flight took-off from Cascavel, in southern Brazil.

As always, there are many speculations and the web is never short of self-proclaimed experts and rumours. At HotelFoxFox, we don’t do rumours. We will also not post the video which has been making rounds, because it brings no additional information. Nobody knows what happened on board, except for investigators, which won’t communicate about it at this stage anyway.

Here is what is known, factually and from confirmed sources:

  • The aircraft was PS-VPB, an ATR-72-500
  • There were 61 persons on board, of which unfortunately none survived
  • According to the airline, all systems were functional and the aircraft had no restrictions at take-off time

The airlines posted this release, in Portuguese, which contains a full list of passengers and crew, as well as contact numbers for families and for the press.

ATR published the following statement, acknowledging the accident and their support to the investigation.

Flightradar24 published an update based on their own ADS-B network. Note that this data, while significant, is not an official source and could be not reliable, especially at lower altitude. It can also be that the data reported by the aircraft is not reliable in extreme cases. This is especially true for speed, heading, altitude and vertical rate, which can all be incorrect or missing. Timing can also be incorrect.

While we understand the need for an explanation, this will take time. Article relating this accident to previous ones, or speculating about the causes are exactly that: speculation.

Please refrain from this and let us wait for the results of the official investigation.
